Welcome to the 7 Day Film Sprint!
Participants assemble a team to write, shoot, and edit an original short film in the span of a week. Prompts, like a line of dialogue and a prop, to be included in all films are announced at the kickoff meeting. Each team receives unique, randomly-assigned prompts to ensure the originality of a film. For example, one film had to include an actor much older than the character they play, a former surgeon, and a community garden
Attend the kickoff at 33 Hawley St. on June 20th at 7:20 PM to receive your genre and prompts. From there you’ll have 7 days to create your film, 1-5 minutes in length, and submit it by midnight on June 27th.
We’ll host a screening and awards ceremony on July 2nd at the Parlor Room, a BYOB venue in Northampton. All the films will be screened and we’ll award first, second, and third place prizes.
NCTV offers free gear rentals, including cameras, stabilization, audio, and editing equipment to participants. Please read the full Rules & Guidelines for more information on equipment rental. If you need help finding a team to join, contact NCTV before the Sprint and we’ll do our best to help place you.
The NCTV annual meeting takes place at 7:00 PM, just before the kick-ff. All are invited to attend and hear our year in review.
Your team will be given a series of prompts to guide your production. The universal prompt, that all teams must utilize, is the word “open” – either spoken, or appearing on screen in your film.
Each team will also randomly pick three additional prompts – a direction prompt referring to a production technique, a character, and a location. From these three prompts, you only need to do two – toss the one you like the least.
After you pick your prompts, there will be a 7 Minute Trade Market where prompts can be swapped between teams. You can only swap a Character prompt for another Character, Location for Location etc.
Prompts should be broadly interpreted – use them to get creative, not to limit your vision!
The Sprintys Screening Party will be held on July 2nd at 7pm, at The Parlor Room 32 Masonic Street, Northampton. Light refreshments will be provided, BYOB (or your own snacks).
After the screening, voting will open for the Audience Choice Award. Recipients of the Audience Choice Award will win three Weekend Passes to the 2019 Green River Festival (July 12-14). A panel of judges will choose two teams as runners-up who will each receive a single weekend pass to the Green River Festival.
